Covid 19: FGN disburses N66.5bn to states to boost budget

To tackle the COVID-19 pestilence, the Federal Government on Wednesday announced the disbursement of N66.5 billion to eligible states on the basis of the Amended COVID-19 Responsive 2020 Budget results achievement.

Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, who disclosed this in a statement signed by Mr. Hassan Dodo, the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations in Abuja, explained that the disbursement followed compliance with the Amended COVID-19 Responsive 2020 Budget by 35 eligible states in the country.

Rivers is the only state that missed out on the grant due to its inability to meet the eligibility criteria which required the states to have passed and published online on a state’s website by July 31, 2020 credible, fiscally responsible COVID-19 Responsive Amended 2020 Budgets duly approved by the State House of Assembly and assented to by the state governor.

The programme is wholly-financed with a loan amount of $750 million from the International Development Association (IDA), a member of the World Bank Group. Each state received the total sum of N1.9billion equivalent of $5million. The disbursement, according to the minister, is under the performance-based grant component of the World Bank-Assisted States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) Programme-for-Results.

According to Ahmed, the Amended 2020 State Budget must also include standardised budget documentation to enhance clarity, transparency and accessibility.

Lai Calls For Sanction Of Foreign After CNN Story On Lekki Shooting.

The CNN story is the latest expose into the shooting at Lekki that has come to be called a massacre in some quarters.

Mohammed said the allegation of massacre at the toll gate only succeeded in misleading the world.

A panel is investigating allegations.

Until the out come of the investigation, “we can say that the world has just witnessed a massacre without bodies” in Lekki.

Protesters at the venue, in photos and video recordings, allege soldiers arrived the scene and shot at them.

Protesters chanted the National Anthem in response, amidst shrieks of terror.

They also allege soldiers took away bodies of protesters.

The minister insisted that the military did not shoot at protesters at the toll gate.

He asked anyone who has contrary proofs to make them available to the panel investigating the matter.

In the wake of the initial allegations, the military denied soldiers were at the protest, insisting the images were digitally manipulated.

Days later, it swung around to say the military was at the scene at the instance of Lagos state government.

It has since gone on to say soldiers did not fire live bullets at the protest.

In the wake of the CNN story, Chief of Army Staff Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai said the army followed “rules of engagement” in the Lekki tollgate incident.

Child Abuse – Girl Child Rape.

On December 19, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution to declare October 11 every year as the International Day of the Girl Child. The aim of the declaration is to recognize girls Rights and the unique challenges confronting girls to actualize their dreams around the world. However, the International Day of the Girl Child mainly focuses attention on the need to holistically and proactively address the socio-cultural, Economic and political challenges bedeviling girls from attaining greatness and promote girls development and empowerment  as well as the  fulfillment of their human Rights to compete favorably with their male counterparts. According to the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on the Girl Child, adolescent girls have the rights to a safe, education and healthy life throughout the formative years to womanhood. Similarly, the Girl Child has enormous talents and potentials to develop and transform the World to an enviable height as mothers and future leaders. However, over a decade ago, the global community as parts of effort to galvanize support towards uplifting the virtues and dignity of girl child, has made significant and concerted effort with a view to project and improves the lives of the girl child through the provisions of various aids and assistance toward better the lots of girls. It is however pertinent to note that Nigeria government and other critical stakeholders have on different occasion made appreciable effort to drastically encourage parents and guidance on the need to pay adequate attention to develop and improve the educational needs of the girl child. Sadly enough, girls globally are vulnerable to sexual molestation, abuse and exploitation during conflicts violence particularly in the refugee camps, hence the need to accord them maximum protections  during  arms conflicts and other internal crises toward ensuring full realisation of their dreams as mothers and future leaders.  Moreover, Girl Child in Nigeria have been confronted with different challenges raising from  force labour, house girls, hawking on the street, prostitution for survival  and other forms of enslavement numerous to mention. Consequently, Nigeria government and other Humanitarian organizations working in the country have made concerted efforts in this regards through vigorous campaign and synergy to fight against the abuse of the girls child and out of school girls across the country. As the world mark yet another International Day for the girl child, leaders at all levels should make the best use of this opportunity to drum support against discrimination on education of the girl child.

Kaduna Polytechnic is one of the earliest polytechnics in Nigeria, located at Tudun Wada area of Kaduna South local government of Kaduna state, North-Western Nigeria.[2] It was established in 1956 as Kaduna Technical Institute after the British Government accepted the upgrading of Yaba Higher College (now Yaba College of Technology) to a technical institute and also proposed the establishment of technical institutes in Kaduna and Enuguthrough the recommendation of the Higher Education Commission.[3] The polytechnic offers National Diploma and Higher National Diploma courses at the undergraduate level. In 2019/2020 academic session the institute will start awarding National Diploma in Railway Engineering Technology as approved by NBTE on 30th January 2. The school has colleges scattered around the State, namely; college of science and technology CST, college of environmental studies CES, college of business management studies CBMS, college of engineering COE and college of administrative studies and social sciences CASSS. These campuses are highly populated with students and staffs.
